Fizzing Heart Art – Pick up starting 2/1
Our take-home kit for February is a fun combination and science and art. We will use watercolor paper to cut out shapes, we suggest a heart but anything is fine, then sprinkle our shapes with baking soda. After that, we will use pipettes to drop dyed vinegar on our shapes causing fizzing bursts of color! These kits will be ready to pick up on February 1st. You will need to provide your own vinegar for this craft.

February Reads for March Book Clubs
Our Book Club for kids will meet to chat about our February book, Because of Mr. Terupt, on 2/2 at 4pm. Our next book is Murder is Bad Manners by Robin Stevens and our March meeting to discuss it will be on 3/2 at 4pm. Here is a little more from the publisher about our new book.
“Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong are best friends at Deepdean School for Girls, and they both have a penchant for solving mysteries. In fact, outspoken Daisy is a self-described Sherlock Holmes, and she appoints wallflower Hazel as her own personal Watson when they form their own (secret!) detective agency. The only problem? They have nothing to investigate.
But that changes once Hazel discovers the body of their science teacher, Miss Bell—and the body subsequently disappears. She and Daisy are certain a murder must have taken place, and they can think of more than one person with a motive.
Determined to get to the bottom of the crime—and to prove that it happened—before the killer strikes again, Hazel and Daisy must hunt for evidence, spy on their suspects, and use all the cunning, scheming, and intuition they can muster. But will they succeed? And can their friendship stand the test?
Our Middle School Book Club will meet to discuss Divergent on 2/9 at 3:30pm. Our next book is Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. We will meet to chat about Leviathan on 3/9 at 3:30pm. Here is more about the book from the publisher.
“It is the cusp of World War I. The Austro-Hungarians and Germans have their Clankers, steam-driven iron machines loaded with guns and ammunition. The British Darwinists employ genetically fabricated animals as their weaponry. Their Leviathan is a whale airship and the most masterful beast in the British fleet.
Aleksandar Ferdinand, a Clanker, and Deryn Sharp, a Darwinist, are on opposite sides of the war. But their paths cross in the most unexpected way, taking them both aboard the Leviathan on a fantastical, around-the-world adventure….One that will change both their lives forever.
