November at the Creswell Library Family Newsletter

What's new in November?

International Games Month: Board Games and Beyond

To celebrate International Games Month, we’re launching a new program! Join us for Board Games and Beyond, an all-ages event running from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. We’ll have board games on both sides of the library, plus VR and our Nintendo Switch. There will be a “grownups side” and an “all-ages side” so everyone can enjoy games suited to them. If you have any questions, talk to Lindsey or Nick.

Program Notes for November:

This month’s schedule is a little unusual. There will be no kids’ programs on Thursday, November 20 and 27. Reading Buddies will only meet on November 11.

Thursdays for Kids

We have two events this month for kids!

11/6 at 3:30pm - Pin It! Make Your Own Buttons

Three colorful badges on a pink background: "I need space" with a planet, "It's bananas" with a banana, and "flamazing" with a flamingo.

Come design and create your very own custom button pins. Use our supplies to draw, collage, and decorate, then press your design into a wearable work of art.

11/13 at 3:30pm - LEGO Club

A bright banner for a LEGO club meeting every 2nd Thursday for ages 5-12, at 3:30 pm with colorful brick background.

Join us for LEGO building awesomeness! Each child who completes a project will get to put it on display in the library until the next LEGO Club.

Tuesdays for Kids

11/11 at 3:30 - Reading Buddies

Creswell Library Reading Buddies Club, 2nd & 4th Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30pm; features animals.

We’re teaming up with Blue Barn Sanctuary to bring you Reading Buddies! Come join us for a cozy reading time with stuffies and bunnies. Did you know that reading to animals (even stuffed ones!) helps kids feel relaxed and supported?

Each session will have plenty of cuddly stuffed animals to read to, helpful volunteers, and—on most days—Blue Barn’s own superstar, Theodore Von Tater Tot!

PreK Storytime   Thursdays at 10:00am

Join us for fun books, songs, and rhymes!! This storytime is intended for children in preschool, but all kids and their families are welcome to join. We shoot for about 30 minutes of fun, but sometimes we go a little long and sometimes just a tad short. Afterward, we will all do a fun craft.

Babytime   Tuesdays at 10:00am

Join us on Tuesdays for songs, fingerplays, lap bounces, scarves, egg shakers, stories, and bubbles! This storytime is 20 minutes long so we can wrap up before the littles get too squirmy.

Book Clubs

Middle-Grade Book Club

Middle Grade Book Club (ages 10-13) meets the first Tuesday of every month at 4pm and goes for about 45 minutes. It always includes a simple activity relating to the story.

We will meet at the library on 11/4 at 4pm to chat about "You Are Here: Connecting Flights".

Our next book is "A Rover's Story" by Jasmine Warga! We will talk about this unique sci-fi story on 12/2.

Meet Resilience, a Mars rover determined to live up to his name.

Res was built to explore Mars. He was not built to have human emotions. But as he learns new things from the NASA scientists who assemble him, he begins to develop humanlike feelings. Maybe there’s a problem with his programming….

Human emotions or not, launch day comes, and Res blasts off to Mars, accompanied by a friendly drone helicopter named Fly. But Res quickly discovers that Mars is a dangerous place filled with dust storms and giant cliffs. As he navigates Mars’s difficult landscape, Res is tested in ways that go beyond space exploration.

As millions of people back on Earth follow his progress, will Res have the determination, courage, and resilience to succeed…and survive?
