BOBA: Battle of the Books for Adults
Battle of the Books for Adults (BOBA)! Are you tired of the kids having all the fun reading and competing in
Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)? Do they come home bragging about the awesome books they are
reading and gloating about their victories? Well, adults, your time has come. Join us for our first ever
BOBA event at the Creswell Library.
What is BOBA?
BOBA is a little like OBOB. If you don’t know what OBOB is don’t despair! You will form a team of up to
four members. Each team will be responsible for reading all 8 of the books on our BOBA list (see below).
Then, on February 7th, 2026, we will host a trivia battle night.
What does the battle look like?
Unlike OBOB, you will not be battling another team. Instead, all teams will have a small whiteboard at
their table. Everyone will be asked the same question and be given 20 seconds to discuss their answer
with their team and write their answer on a whiteboard. After 20 seconds each team will be required to
raise their whiteboard above their head so we can check your answers and tally the scores. Perfect
spelling will not be required; however, we have to be able to read your handwriting and understand what
you are trying to spell. At the end of the night, we will have prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams.
What are the questions like?
We will be using a similar format to OBOB. Most questions will be either Content Questions or In Which
Book Questions.
Content Questions ask a specific question from a book. You will be given the title of the book and will
need to provide a very specific answer. For example, in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, what is the
name of the island where Huck and Jim begin their journey together? The answer would be “Jackson” or
“Jackson Island.” We would not accept “that big island in the Mississippi where Huck and Jim meet up.”
In Which Book questions, will always have an answer that is the title of the book and the author. An
example would be: in which book do the characters meet a Duke and a King? The answer would be “The
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain.”
We have a couple of other ideas for question formats, but don’t want to give too much away. You can expect
the vast majority of questions to be in one of the above two formats.
How do I get started?
Find and form your team! A team can have no more than four members. Once you have your team, pick an awesome team name and use this link to register.
Team Sign-up: https://forms.gle/TiUZ5ab483XYv3H9A
Once you are registered, you will have to work with your team to decide how to read the books. Do you all
want to be responsible for reading two of the books? Four of the books? All of the books? At a minimum,
I’d recommend that you make sure someone is reading each book.
You can also sign up as a solo. When you sign up solo, on trivia night, we will place you at a table with other solo sign-ups, or, if you really want to be a team of one, we will let you do your own thing.
