Engineer It! Exploring Ancient Technologies

The Engineer It! Exploring Ancient Technologies home activity kit contains a printed activity guide in both English and Spanish, a graphic poster, materials for multiple hands-on activities, and ideas for continued learning and exploration that can be done at home. They are designed for kids over the age of 4. You can pick up a bag for each of your kids starting October 1st! No sign up needed.

Family Baking - Apple Crisp

This month we will be making a simple apple crisp. Sign up to get the ingredients you need and the Zoom link to join us for step-by-step instructions. You don't need to use the ingredients we provide to join in on the baking fun. Remember, if you already have flour, sugar, baking soda, and baking powder please don't request these items again.

We will be baking together on 10/22 at 5pm. Sign-ups for this program will close on Monday, 10/18.

Two books. The first is "Hook's Revenge" by Heidi Schultz with a black haired pirate at wheel of the ship. The second is "Frogkisser" by Garth Nix with a green cover with green frogs and one golden frog.

 Book Clubs

This month, our Book Club for Kids we will be chatting about Dragon Pearl on Wednesday, 10/6, at 5pm. Our next book is Hook's Revenge by Heidi Schulz. From the publisher, "Twelve-year-old Jocelyn dreams of becoming every bit as daring as her infamous father, Captain James Hook. Her grandfather, on the other hand, intends to see her starched and pressed into a fine society lady. When she’s sent to Miss Eliza Crumb-Biddlecomb’s Finishing School for Young Ladies, Jocelyn’s hopes of following in her father’s fearsome footsteps are lost in a heap of dance lessons, white gloves, and way too much pink.
So when Jocelyn receives a letter from her father challenging her to avenge his untimely demise at the jaws of the Neverland crocodile, she doesn’t hesitate―here at last is the adventure she has been waiting for. But Jocelyn finds that being a pirate is a bit more difficult than she’d bargained for. As if attempting to defeat the Neverland’s most fearsome beast isn’t enough to deal with, she’s tasked with captaining a crew of woefully untrained pirates, outwitting cannibals wild for English cuisine, and rescuing her best friend from a certain pack of lost children, not to mention that pesky Peter Pan who keeps barging in uninvited.
The crocodile’s clock is always ticking in Heidi Schulz’s debut novel, a story told by an irascible narrator who is both dazzlingly witty and sharp as a sword. Will Jocelyn find the courage to beat the incessant monster before time runs out?"

Our Middle School Book Club will be discussing Fake Blood on Wednesday, 10/13, at 3:30pm. Our next book is Frogkisser! by Garth Nix. From the publisher, "Poor Princess Anya. Forced to live with her evil stepmother's new husband, her evil stepstepfather. Plagued with an unfortunate ability to break curses with a magic-assisted kiss. And forced to go on the run when her stepstepfather decides to make the kingdom entirely his own. Aided by a loyal talking dog, a boy thief trapped in the body of a newt, and some extraordinarily mischievous wizards, Anya sets off on a Quest that, if she plays it right, will ultimately free her land -- and teach her a thing or two about the use of power, the effectiveness of a well-placed pucker, and the finding of friends in places both high and low. With Frogkisser!, acclaimed bestselling author Garth Nix has conjured a fantastical tale for all ages, full of laughs and danger, surprises and delights, and an immense population of frogs. It's 50% fairy tale, 50% fantasy, and 100% pure enjoyment from start to finish."
